Remote Control Cars

The market for RC Cars is huge – easily the highest selling segment in the remote control industry.

Consider what your needs are before you purchase.

  1. What is your Price Range? ($30 – $65 entry level gifts are common.  These are typically for children.)
  2. Where will you Use the Vehicle? (RC cars are OK for pavement only.  That's what they're made for.)
  3. Will you use it on dirt or on small gravel? (RC cars are a poor choice.  Go for RC Trucks – better clearance.)
  4. Is performance / durability important (if yes, you'll want to consider a gas powered RC Truck instead.)

Scale and RC Cars:

Remote control cars and trucks sizes are based on a relative scale.  Think of it as a percentage of what the real vehicle size would be.  A 1/8 or 1/10 scale is on the larger end of the size — these are fairly large.

Smaller scale vehicles, such as 1/14, 1/18, or even 1/24 scale vehicles are smaller and typically less expensive.  Smaller in this case is usually worse – while less expensive, they often have minimal clearance (they get hung up on even small pebbles/rocks) and can be less than average on durability.

There are also micro RC, which as the name implies are cars (these are 100% toys) that have micro charges, usually about 2 minutes of charge.  These are novelty items, they have little practical use.

Ground Clearance:

Most radio control cars have minimal ground clearance, they're made for smooth surfaces and speed.  If you have a rougher surface, like dirt, gravel, and uneven surfaces, we recommend you skip the cars and opt for a RC Truck option instead.  Nitro RC trucks are the optimal choice, offering the most power and versatility.
